Influencing the Influencer on Educational Reforms
We have had another fantastic Influencing the Influencer workshop here at Slough Aspire.
The Education and Learning for Life' workshop was delivered by Jessi Loftus of Slough Borough Council along with guest speakers Glynis Weller from Cambridge Education, Bev Beukes, Senior Learning Coordinator from East Berks Community Learning And Skills Service (CLASS) and Amanda Heap, Community Engagement Manager from Heathrow Academy.
Glynis provided the latest update of the extensive reforms to GCSE, AS and A Level qualifications; changes that cover both subject content and assessment of the qualifications. She explained that they will follow a linear programme of assessment with exams at the end of the courses, GCSE’s new grading scale and that AS results will no longer count towards A Levels as they do now.
To find out more on the changes please check out the website www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ofqual
Bev Beukes informed the group of the range of services that CLASS have to offer to help local people across Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead who are looking to return to learning; courses that are local to people and can fit in around existing commitments.
For a current brochure or information and advice about learning opportunities in the borough you can contact CLASS on 01628 685647 or email email@example.com
Amanda from Heathrow Academy outlined how Heathrow Academy recruits for a wide variety of roles within the airport including in retail, hospitality, customer service and construction. With their ‘Pre-employment Training Programme’ which helps individuals gain skills required for a job, candidates are well prepared for the guaranteed interview on successful completion of the course. Heathrow Academy covers all 5 boroughs surrounding the airport including Slough and also offers apprenticeships.
