SLOUGH ASPIRE NEWS

The Aspire Sessions with SEGRO POSTED BY NATALIA ORLOWSKA: JUNE 2019

35 local jobseekers came to the Aspire Centre on Friday 14th June to learn tips and techniques for successfully getting into employment from a team of business professionals from SEGRO Plc, who own and manage the Slough Trading Estate as well as estates across the UK and in 9 other European countries.

The day involved a carousel of group activities covering CVs and making Applications, Developing an attractive LinkedIn profile, Job searching and Networking, Being Successful at Work, and Who’s who on Slough Trading Estate. Led by our business volunteers, these discussions allowed attendees to find out more about the process of getting a job while discovering more about our volunteers’ career paths. There were some great conversations about how the trading estate has changed over time, which was backed by our Jobs Board with over 35 live vacancies from business on the estate.

Lunch provided a chance for our job seekers to network with each other and share experiences of their search for work as well as have one to one CV reviews with Slough Aspire Chief Executive, Fiona Jones. While in the afternoon, all attendees got a chance to learn more about competency based interviewing and try their hand at crafting interview answers with our business volunteers facilitating and providing feedback.

Some of the fantastic feedback from attendees included:

“Brilliant, found out things I never knew, like LinkedIn”

“It was lovely; gained so much knowledge, met lovely people, great lunch too. Thank you”

“It has been very good I have learnt so many useful tips and tricks on interview skills and it was good to listen to everyone talk about their experience and their knowledge.”

“Very Useful and very interesting. Effective blend of challenge and validation. Enjoyed meeting everyone – have fallen out of habit of attending workshops.”

“Very useful insight into how SEGRO operate and learning about the various types of experience held/gained by other attendees”

A huge thank you for James Power, Amjad Agil, Gordon Wiseman and Barry Thomas of SEGRO for giving up their time to make a difference as part of SEGRO Plc’s Day of Giving.
