Learning ins and outs of business
Posted on 4th November 2017 at 13:50
For the past week I have been fortunate enough to take part in a work experience placement setup by Herschel Grammar School and Learning to Work. I have really enjoyed my time here doing work experience and have been given a taste of what working for a fast-growing business is really like. It has been very insightful, and it has shown me how a business is run.
When I was first told that I was working for Slough Aspire, I didn’t know what the company was and what they did. But after working there for the last week, I have realised that this company was an integral part of Slough allowing small businesses to get the recognition that they need and helping businesses in the local area network with each other.
Throughout this last week I have been learning the ins and outs of how a business must market its self. When I came in on Monday morning, I assisted Amelia to complete a tech check ensuring that all the technology that needed to be used was working and ready for use. I used a software called Dotmailer which allowed to me to design a campaign promoting one of the many events that are hosted at the venue. I have taken part in front of house activities, meeting and greeting guests and helping with any complications that may arise, which have helped me improve my customer service skills. I have also helped making marketing packets which are then later given to potential customers to inform them about Slough Aspire. When required, I helped reset the main space, move furniture in the training room and helped archive important documents.
This last week has been a very eye-opening experience and I would like to thank Fiona Jones for allowing me the opportunity to work at Slough Aspire. I would also like to thank Sofia Khuram and Amelia Plaister for helping me get adapted to the completely different environment that I was comfortable with.
